Explore Carpentry

Carpenters build frameworks and structures, including homes and highways, by cutting and shaping wood and other construction materials. Carpenters build or remodel almost every kind of structure, from houses and commercial buildings to bridges and highways.  They work with power and hand tools to build wood framing for houses, roofs, stairs, decks, sheaths, and forms for concrete. Carpenters install doors, windows, handrails, build cabinets, and counter tops and perform interior and exterior finish work. They read blueprints, measure accurately, and calculate dimensions. Commercial carpenters construct metal framing and drywall and are key in instillation of acoustical ceilings, as well as vapor barrier and insulation. Carpenters are involved in new construction, building renovations and remodeling work.
